LiDAR Mapping

LiDAR fires laser pulses by the million and measures what comes back — including returns that find gaps in the canopy and reach the ground underneath. That makes it the right tool anytime vegetation, clearance, or terrain accuracy is the question a camera can't answer.

What LiDAR Gives You

Vegetation encroachment analysis along corridors and rights-of-way

Power line sag & clearance measurement

Pole inspection & asset mapping

Right-of-way mapping and route feasibility

Bare-earth terrain and topographic mapping beneath canopy

Tree inventory & canopy density mapping

Deliverables

Classified point clouds separating ground, vegetation, and structure

Bare-earth terrain models (DTM) and surface models (DSM)

Contour lines at the interval your plans call for

Clearance and encroachment reporting along the corridor

GIS-ready exports that open in the software your team already runs

Why it's worth the extra capture

LiDAR costs more to fly and more to process than photogrammetry, and on open dirt it's usually not worth the difference. What you're buying is the ability to see through cover. On a wooded right-of-way or a brushy tract, a camera-based survey models the top of the canopy and guesses at everything below it — which is precisely the part you need in order to price clearing, verify clearance, or plan access.

Because each pulse can return multiple times, the processing step can separate what's ground from what's vegetation from what's structure. That classification is what turns a cloud of points into a terrain model you can actually build a bid on. We fly a DJI Zenmuse L3 on a Matrice 400, tied to our own D-RTK 3 base station — a payload rated to pick up a 21.6 mm conductor at 300 m, which is what makes sag and clearance measurable from altitude.

Worth knowing

Aerial LiDAR does not replace a licensed land survey. It produces the terrain and vegetation data you need to plan and price work; legal boundary determination and sealed documents remain the work of a licensed professional surveyor.
